Three-day Medical Mission
On this tour, you'll participate in humanitarian activities and enjoy some of the best of Ghana, too.
This volunteer tourism trip is a fundraiser to support the work of Healthy Villages, Inc. to bring healthcare to poor, remote villages in Ghana. The in-country cost of your trip is tax deductible in the U.S. and Canada.
We'll start our tour with a three-day medical mission in the Volta Region of Ghana (southeast Ghana). You'll work alongside our Ghana staff to assess and treat patients of all ages.
Medical mission and/or community volunteer work is OPTIONAL.
Community Development & Ecotourism
We'll then spend a couple days at a beautiful eco-resort that supports the mission of the NGO, "Dream Big Ghana". It's a great place to relax, and you'll also be invited to volunteer in one of their community development projects.
A boat tour of the Lower Volta River will take us to an island where you'll get to sample locally-made, mahogany cured rum.
We'll also visit one of Ghana's National Parks, where we'll sleep in a treehouse in the rainforest, and look for wildlife on an early morning hike. You'll also take a breathtaking walk above the rainforest canopy on a walkway suspended from giant trees!
Culture, Tradition, and Sightseeing
One of the highlights of the tour will be a colorful traditional festival honoring the region's King and tribal chiefs. We'll visit bustling markets, and shop for handicrafts to bring home.
A visit to a World Heritage Site slave castle will bring this tragic era of history to light. Healthy Villages, Inc. co-director Godfried Agbezudor is an expert in Ghana's history and traditions, and will help you understand this, and other aspects of Ghana's culture.
We'll round out our tour with a drumming and dance celebration on the beach!
