COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT AND SELF-DETERMINATION
In 2018, we will be partnering with the U.S. non-profit, Advocates for Community Alternatives (ACA), to pilot a project in one of the villages in our region, Ketu South Municipality/Volta Region. ACA's mission is focused on self-determination for villages threatened by unscrupulous mining operations. The project involves training community members in communication skills, brainstorming, and developing goals that will improve the economic status and health of the community. It will include men, women and children in the conversation. The objective of the training is to empower the community to make sustainable changes - which fits in perfectly with our organization goals and objectives.
Stay tuned for updates as the project gets underway!
VOICES OF THE ANCESTORS STORYTELLING PROJECT
We will be partnering with nationally-recognized storyteller, author and playwright Gail Nyoka to record, translate, and publish traditional stories, myths and legends of the Ewe tribe of the Volta Region - Eastern Ghana. One focus of this project is on stories that relate to the ecology and landscape of the region, and how these ancient stories taught listeners about respect and care for the environment.
Grant applications are in - if funded, this project will get underway later this year!
